The discipline of organic chemistry was founded in 1954, and became one of the disciplines to confer Ph.D. degrees in 2003. Major research areas include: Organic Synthesis, Organometallic Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, Pesticide Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry.
